The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission’s mission is to protect the special places and buildings that bring the City’s remarkable history and heritage to life.

The Commission works in partnership with property owners, elected officials, and community groups to ensure the City’s historically and architecturally significant sites are preserved for future generations. The Commission, the largest municipal preservation agency in the United States, was created in 1965.
